What is openMosix?
openMosixis a Linux kernel extension for single-system image clustering. Thiskernel extension turns a network of ordinary computers into asupercomputer for Linux applications.
Once you have installedopenMosix, the nodes in the cluster start talking to one another andthe cluster adapts itself to the workload. Processes originating fromany one node, if that node is too busy compared to others, can migrateto any other node. openMosix continuously attempts to optimize theresource allocation.
We achieve this with a kernel patch forLinux, creating a reliable, fast and cost-efficient SSI clusteringplatform that is linearly scalable and adaptive. With openMosix' AutoDiscovery, a new node can be added while the cluster is running and thecluster will automatically begin to use the new resources.
Thereis no need to program applications specifically for openMosix. Sinceall openMosix extensions are inside the kernel, every Linux applicationautomatically and transparently benefits from the distributed computingconcept of openMosix. The cluster behaves much as does a SymmetricMulti-Processor, but this solution scales to well over a thousand nodeswhich can themselves be SMPs.
The openMosix Community is veryactive, contributing add-on applications and sharing helpfulinformation with all users. The openMosix Add-Ons and Community pagelists these shared applications. And, it is all GPL'd.
